Russian Internship Opportunity

SLI is excited to once again offer a Russian internship opportunity in the summer of 2026! Our internships provide the chance for students to apply the language skills that they have acquired during SLI to meaningful work experiences. Hear what a past intern had to say about the experience in this feature.

Are you a future teacher? Are you interested in getting an insider's perspective on how foreign languages are taught? Or do you just want to try applying your new language skills in a professional setting? SLI is pleased to offer a credit-bearing remote internship opportunity for learners of Russain language at the Belgrade-based Modern Talking Language School during summer 2026.

Students who will learn Russian in the summer of 2026 at SLI's domestic program in Intensive Russian at any level are eligible to apply to participate in an internship opportunity focused on Russian language education. Internships are arranged individually in consultation between the prospective intern, SLI faculty, and site coordinator at the host organization. For the summer of 2026, SLI has arranged three types of education internships with Modern Talking language school.

Materials Development Internships

● Interns create educational content, including lesson plans, interactive exercises, and multimedia learning materials.

Teaching Assistant Internships

● Interns assist in teaching live classes, lead conversational practice, and gain hands-on language teaching experience.

Research & Cultural Collaboration

● Joint research projects on Russian linguistics, language acquisition, and cross-cultural communication.

● Student-led cultural initiatives, workshops, or event organization for Russian language learners.

Prospective interns who are interested in participating in internships at other organizations that they identify on their own are welcome to share their ideas with SLI.

The internship begins after the conclusion of the program in Pittsburgh, and the maximum duration is 4 weeks.

Interns will enroll to earn between 1-3 college credits for successful completion of the internship requirements. Each credit earned represents 40 hours of work on site at the host organization. This internship must be taken for academic credit. Interns are also required to produce an academic assignment (such as a topical paper, journal, or portfolio) that is commensurate with the credits earned and under the supervision of their SLI-assigned faculty sponsor.

The matching of interns with host organizations, site coordinators, faculty sponsors will take place in advance of the June 1st start date of the SLI Domestic Russian program. Interns, site coordinators, and faculty sponsors will sign a learning agreement detailing the scope and expectations for their on-site or remote work and academic assignment prior to the start of the internship.
