1st, 2nd & 3rd-year Slovak

6 Weeks in Pittsburgh

1st, 2nd- & 3rd year intensive Slovak class taught at the SLI provides the equivalent of an academic year's worth of study. Classes meet on the University of Pittsburgh campus Monday - Friday from 9am to 3pm. In addition to intensive language classes, students attend Slovak films, lectures on politics and culture, singing classes, and cooking classes.

Available to undergraduate and graduate Pitt & non-Pitt students, working professionals, and retirees
Cultural Programs: 

Includes supplemental activities such as films, lectures, and cooking classes.

Location: 

Pittsburgh, PA

Housing: 

Students may select to live in the dormitories (approx. $33/night) or locate an apartment to sublet.

Note: The cost of accommodations and meals are not included in the program cost.

$1,000 to a maximum award of $5,000

For priority consideration, please complete your SLI application by March 1, 2019. Students may continue to apply for the SLI and SLI scholarships until June 1, 2019 or until scholarship funds are depleted.

 

Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Awards:
Full tuition funding + $2,500 living stipend.

ELIGIBILITY:
US citizens currently enrolled in a US institution of higher education at the undergraduate or graduate level. Students applying for language programs at the 2nd-year level or higher

TO APPLY:
Complete this application and send it to manukyan1@pitt.edu. Include two letters of recommendation from professors with your application. Letters should comment on your aptitude for language learning and/or the relevance of the SLI language you intend to study to your overall academic and/or career goals.

Note: If you wish to have your Summer Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship application considered for a possible advantage based on financial need, please submit a copy of the Student Aid Report generated from your current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to manukyan1@pitt.edu by the March 1, 2019 application deadline. Please be aware that it may take up to three weeks for you to receive your Student Aid Report after filing your FAFSA.

10 Week Hybrid Program in Pittsburgh + Bratislava, Slovak Republic

Students may combine 6 weeks of Slovak language study at the University of Pittsburgh with a 4 week abroad component held in at the Bratislava, Slovak Republic. Intensive language classes meet Monday-Friday 9am-3pm. While in Pittsburgh students attend supplemental films, lectures, and cooking and singing classes. While in Bratislava, students continue their language learning and also engage in an extensive excursion program.

10 weeks: June 3 – August 9, 2019
