1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th-year Russian

8 Weeks in Pittsburgh

1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year Russian classes taught at the SLI provide the equivalent of an academic year's worth of study. Classes meet on the University of Pittsburgh campus, Monday - Friday from 9am to 3pm. In addition to intensive language classes, students also attend Russian films, lectures on politics and culture, singing classes, and cooking classes.

Eligibility: 
Available to undergraduate and graduate Pitt & non-Pitt students, working professionals, and retirees as well as Project GO-awarded ROTC students.
Cultural Programs: 

Includes weekly films, lectures, and Russian singing classes.

Location: 

Pittsburgh, PA

Housing: 

Students may select to live in the dormitories (approx. $33/night) or locate an apartment to sublet.

Note: The cost of accommodations and meals are not included in the program cost.

Funding Opportunity: 

Summer Language Institute Scholarships:
$1,000 to a maximum award of $5,000

Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Awards:
Full tuition funding + $2,500 living stipend.
ELIGIBILITY:
US citizens currently enrolled in a US institution of higher education at the undergraduate or graduate level. Students applying for language programs at the 2nd-year level or higher

Complete this form and send it to sliadmin@pitt.edu. Include two letters of recommendation from professors with your application. Letters should comment on your aptitude for language learning and/or the relevance of the SLI language you intend to study to your overall academic and/or career goals.

10 Week Hybrid Program in Pittsburgh + Moscow

This program begins with 5 weeks of intensive study in Pittsburgh followed by 5 weeks at Moscow State University.  While in Pittsburgh, students attend classes Monday - Friday 9am - 3pm; in addition to language study, the curriculum includes weekly films, lectures, and Russian singing classes.  Intensive language study continues in Moscow and is complemented by an extensive excursion program that includes a tour of the Kremlin and Red Square, a visit to the Tretiakovsky Museum, opportunities to visit a space museum and Soviet exhibition site.  The program concludes with a 4-day trip to St. Petersburg.
