1st & 2nd-year Polish

6 Weeks in Pittsburgh

1st and 2nd-year Polish classes taught at the SLI provide the equivalent of an academic year's worth of study. Classes meet on the University of Pittsburgh campus Monday - Friday from 9am to 3p. In addition to intensive language classes, students attend Polish films, lectures on politics and culture, singing classes, and cooking classes.

Available to undergraduate and graduate Pitt & non-Pitt students, working professionals, and retirees
Cultural Programs: 

Includes supplemental activities such as films, lectures, and cooking classes.

Location: 

Pittsburgh, PA

Housing: 

Students may select to live in the dormitories (approx. $33/night) or locate an apartment to sublet.

Note: The cost of accommodations and meals are not included in the program cost.

Summer Language Institute Scholarships:
$1,000 to a maximum award of $5,000

Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Awards:
Full tuition funding + $2,500 living stipend.

ELIGIBILITY:
US citizens currently enrolled in a US institution of higher education at the undergraduate or graduate level. Students applying for language programs at the 2nd-year level or higher

TO APPLY:
Complete this form and send it to sliadmin@pitt.edu. Include two letters of recommendation from professors with your application. Letters should comment on your aptitude for language learning and/or the relevance of the SLI language you intend to study to your overall academic and/or career goals.

Note: If you wish to have your Summer Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship application considered for a possible advantage based on financial need, please submit a copy of the Student Aid Report generated from your current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to sliadmin@pitt.edu by the March 2, 2018 application deadline. Please be aware that it may take up to three weeks for you to receive your Student Aid Report after filing your FAFSA.

1st & 2nd-year Polish

10 Week Hybrid Program: Pittsburgh + Krakow, Poland

Students may combine 6 weeks of Polish study at the University of Pittsburgh with a 4-week abroad component held in in Krakow, Poland. Intensive language classes meet Monday-Friday 9am-3pm. While in Pittsburgh students attend supplemental films, lectures, and cooking and singing classes. While in Krakow, students participate in extensive cultural and excursion programs, including a three-day trip to Warsaw.

10 weeks: June 4 - August 11, 2018

Available to undergraduate and graduate Pitt & non-Pitt students, working professionals, and retirees
